Meeting the First Lady

My 12-year-old son went to Washington D.C. and was one of the lucky few able to tour the White House. What’s more, he was one of the even luckier fewer people able to meet a current resident of the White House; in this case, he met Mrs. Obama.

Would it have been too much to ask for him to have removed his hat doing so?

Apparently so. Please remember, he is 12 [I’ve been corrected in my comments; he turned 13 in January], which is an awkward age for boys. Plus, his parents were still back in Michigan, so he was feeling free.

But if there was a way for me to reach from Michigan to Washington D.C. and go back in time and remove that hat from his head, I would.

Here is a still photo of him shaking hands with Mrs. Obama:

As you can probably tell from the picture, there is also a movie. He is at the 19:57 minute mark. I get a kick out of listening to their exchange.

Also, he has braces. At least twice before shaking Mrs. Obama’s hand, he swipes at his face with his left hand. He does it just seconds before he shakes hands with her using his right hand. Thankfully. I suspect he may have been wiping at his mouth because braces tend to make drool. It’s never good to drool and probably even worse when missing the first lady.

And if you’d like to see the video, she is actually greeting two entire bus loads full of people from Houghton Lake, which is about 100 or so people. Very cool.
