The Cyber Police
In the past, I have published my work, including my column I'm the Mommy, online. You can access my favorite I'm the Mommy columns here. If you read an I'm the Mommy column and feel you have to share it, please do not send it by e-mail or publish it on your Web site. These columns were written by me, and I worked hard on them! Instead, send your friends the URL so they can come to this site to read them. That's why I put them here. This also applies to any other article or blog entry I post online.
So how do you send a URL?
A URL looks like:
You will find it at the top of your screen to the right of the "address" spot. You can insert this into an e-mail or you can write it down on a piece of paper and give it to them and they can find it on their own. There is no reason to copy and paste an essay. It violates my copyright.
I have copyrighted these works and you are violating my copyright unless you have my personal written permission and terms to use these essays. You don't have it.
My columns are syndicated in a number of publications and unless you have a contract signed by me, you cannot use these columns. Even if you're my sister, please share the link. Yes, I'm serious.
I know this sounds stern, but people have sent essays like this by e-mail and they end up being the jokes you find in your inbox every day. But you no longer know who wrote it. Did these jokes fall out of the sky? I don't think so. Someone wrote it and now they aren't getting credit for it, they can no longer resell it and you've just cut off a stream of revenue for them.
Not only that, but people have removed bylines and presented other's work as their own.
I make a living by writing, when you violate my copyright you are taking food from my children's mouths. Yes, I'm serious.
Including my Byline....
Some people mistakenly believe that if they include my byline, that they are free to publish my work because they gave me credit. Wrong! It might start to sound like overkill, but really, just SHARE THE LINK!
